SteamVR issue with controller – June 2026

In the latest official release for the steamvr update is 2.16 which was released on the July 2nd/3rd, it blocks the button inputs from going though to Unreal due to some new security changes that Steam implemented.

They released a minor update, 2.17.1 on the 6th that fixes this problem, however it is only on the beta release branch until they  put 2.17 on the official releases.

To change to different branches you need to open Steam and go to the Library page, then to the SteamVR page. Then go to the cog in the top right and then “Properties…”. Lastly go to the “Game Versions & Betas” tab and select the “beta” branch, dated the 6th of June 2026. You’ll see the new version being downloaded at the bottom of the steam page once it starts to update.  It’s very quick.

Once that’s completed we recommend restarting the PC to avoid any other issues.

If you have any issues with this version outside of the buttons of the controllers, you can instead change the branch to the “previous” option which will put you on the 2.15.6 version.
